Sebastopol Private Estate Sebastopol Private Estate Sebastopol, CA Sebastopol, CA Part-time Part-time $25 - $35 an hour $25 - $35 an hour 1 day ago 1 day ago 1 day ago Seeking an experienced gardener and caretaker for a 5-acre private residential estate in Sebastopol to work under the guidance of Dawn Smith, former lead horticulturist and general manager of Cornerstone Sonoma and former manager at the Garden Valley Ranch rose garden, trained under the late renowned rosarian Ray Reddell.
The grounds include a small orchard, vineyard, poolside plantings and a large culinary and cutting garden.
This position is 20 hrs/week and includes lodging in a 28ft airstream on property plus hourly compensation depending on experience.
Primary responsibilities include:
Planting new trees, flowers and plants seasonally as required Detailed care and upkeep of culinary and cutting gardens, plus care for flowers, shrubs and trees across the estate Implementing fertilization schedule of plants and trees across the estate Regular deadheading to maintain optimal show Integrated pest management Greenhouse propagation of new starts from seed Harvest of veggies and flowers for family use Weed control including hand weeding and flame weeding of paths Installation of new irrigation for new plantings.
Regular checking and maintenance of irrigation emitters, control systems and valves.
Shredding and turning of compost Maintaining cleanliness of gardens, paths and landscape Careful recordkeeping Excellent organization and management of gardening tools, equipment and supplies Working well as part of a team
Qualifications:
Love of gardening and plants Excellent reliability, timeliness and consistency At least 2 years gardening/horticulture experience Excellent organizational skills Minimum proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Google Sheets, email and text Strong work ethic, excellent integrity, and a sense of fun Job Type:
